The good news is that the tattoo does not have to keep getting the final word. Laser Tattoo Removal is a series, because ink was placed into your skin layer by layer, and removing it takes time.
Two goals
A tattoo can sometimes be removed, but how much clears cannot be predicted before treating, and some tattoos do not clear completely. Want it completely gone? Let’s work toward a clean slate. Need it faded enough for an incredible cover-up? We can do that too.
Fading for a cover-up means taking the existing ink down far enough that a tattoo artist can work over it, rather than clearing it. It is a different end point from removal. Whether the goal is removal or tattoo fading, we build the series around your end goal.
In general, most tattoos take 6 to 12 sessions, about 6 to 8 weeks apart. The consultation is where we set the goal and build the plan: we assess the tattoo, your skin type and your overall health, set expectations, and decide the number of sessions for your tattoo from its color, size, depth, age, location, ink density and how your body responds.
The laser
We use the Rohrer Spectrum Q-switched Nd:YAG, with its 1064 nm and 532 nm wavelengths, for Laser Tattoo Removal. We choose the laser settings for the tattoo in front of us. Using ultra-short, high-energy laser pulses, the Spectrum laser targets tattoo pigment and breaks the ink into microscopic particles.
Your body’s natural processes then gradually clear those particles over time, so the tattoo becomes progressively lighter with each treatment. Smaller particles mean faster fading, more efficient clearance and reduced risk of damage to the surrounding skin.
A laser typically cannot break down every layer during a single visit. That is why laser ink removal is not a quick appointment, and why consistency with the series matters.
1064
nm and 532nm
Two wavelengths on one Q-switched laser: 1064 nm for dark ink, 532 nm for warmer colors.
Rohrer Spectrum
Ink colors
We treat black, blue and red ink, and many multicolored tattoos.
Darker inks usually clear fastest. Lighter colors typically take longer to remove, but they are not impossible.
On a Q-switched Nd:YAG, the 1064 nm wavelength is typically the one used for dark ink and the 532 nm wavelength for warmer colors.
Multicolored work usually takes longer than a single-color piece. Your result depends on the tattoo’s color, size, depth, age, location, ink density and how your body responds. Professional work typically sits deeper in the skin than amateur work, and newer ink can be more stubborn than older ink.

What happens
01
Your Laser Tattoo Removal Consultation is free, 15 minutes and bookable at Denver, Loveland and Denton. You can pick your provider when you book.
We assess the tattoo, your skin type and your overall health, then talk about your goal and build a plan for this tattoo. A consultation like this normally covers medical history and medications too, and before photos are often taken so progress can be compared.
02
A session usually takes 10 to 30 minutes depending on size. XS through Large are booked at 15 minutes and XL at 30.
You wear protective eyewear, as you would for any laser treatment. Most people describe the sensation as a rubber band snap, and cooling and numbing options are available to help with comfort.
03
Laser Tattoo Removal sessions are spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow proper healing. Those weeks are working time, not wasted time, because your body is clearing the fragmented ink between visits.
Each session targets more pigment, followed by time for your body to do its part before we treat again. Book a free Laser Tattoo Removal consultation

Candidates
Laser Tattoo Removal can be for unwanted ink, professional or amateur work, and tattoos you want faded for a cover-up.
Laser tattoo removal is not usually done during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you have a history of keloids or raised scars, that is something to bring up before treating. Some medications make skin more sensitive to light, so your medication list is part of the consultation.
The skin over the tattoo needs to be healthy and clear before a session. A fresh tattoo needs to heal fully first. Because your body does the clearing, anything affecting your immune system is worth raising before you start.
Deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of pigment change with any laser.
The course
You may see slight fading early, with more visible results over time. The tattoo lightens across the series rather than all at once.

Honest part
Laser Tattoo Removal is a series, not a single visit. During the pulses, most people describe a rubber band snap, and afterwards you may have redness or mild swelling for a day or two, similar to a light sunburn. Most people return to regular activities the same day.
Some people also see pinpoint bleeding. Blistering or crusting is also typical and usually settles within days to a couple of weeks.
Some people see the treated skin go lighter or darker than the skin around it for a while, usually settling over several months. Lightening is less common, and it does not always settle back completely.
Scarring is possible with any laser tattoo removal. It is one of the things a provider assesses for beforehand, and it is part of why aftercare matters. Infection is possible if the treated skin is not cared for, which is why aftercare instructions exist.
White and flesh-toned pigments can react by darkening, which is one of the things a provider typically checks for before treating.
Aftercare
Aftercare is usually simple: keep the area clean, keep ointment on it, and keep it covered while it heals. Most people can shower the next day, and the usual advice is not to scrub the area. The usual advice is to keep heat and hard exercise off it for a day or two.
Your provider gives you the specifics after each session.
Treated skin needs sun protection while it heals, covered where you can and sunscreen where you cannot. The usual advice runs from a couple of weeks to a few months, and coming in with a fresh tan or sunburn on the area is typically a reason to wait because recently sun-exposed skin carries a higher risk of pigment change.

Why here
We use the Rohrer Spectrum Q-switched Nd:YAG for Laser Tattoo Removal because it is the specific tool we choose for breaking up tattoo pigment. We match the treatment to the tattoo in front of us, not to a one-size-fits-all idea of ink.
We start with what you want from the tattoo: less visible ink for a cover-up or as much fading as your tattoo can realistically give. We build the series around that goal, so the plan is tied to your end point instead of a generic schedule.
We do not rush the series just because another appointment could be booked sooner. We pace visits around your body’s job of clearing the broken-up ink between sessions, because that clearing time is part of the treatment.

Yes. The goal is lighter ink so another piece has a better starting point.
Deeper skin tones carry a higher risk of pigment change with any laser, and a Q-switched Nd:YAG is generally the type chosen for darker skin for that reason. Your provider assesses the skin the tattoo sits in before setting the laser. How the laser is matched to your skin tone
The main downsides are that it takes a series, it can feel like a rubber band snap, and the result cannot be predicted in advance. In general, redness, swelling and pigment changes are possible, which is why consultation and aftercare matter.
Breaking the ink into smaller particles means reduced risk of damage to the surrounding skin. Still, scarring can happen with any laser tattoo removal. Your provider looks at that risk before treatment, and careful aftercare helps protect the healing skin.
The usual shape is to keep the area clean, keep ointment on it and keep it covered while it heals. The usual advice is to leave crusts alone rather than pick at them. Your provider gives you the specifics after each session.
Treated skin needs sun protection while it heals, covered where you can and sunscreen where you cannot. The usual advice runs from a couple of weeks to a few months. Coming in with a fresh tan or a sunburn on the area is typically a reason to wait.
