Think of it as giving your skin a fresh reset. When your skin feels dull, rough, congested, or like your products are just sitting on top, this is a simple place to start. It is a quick, simple treatment with no downtime.
What it is
Microdermabrasion uses a professional diamond-tip handpiece to gently and precisely exfoliate the surface of the skin, sweeping away dead skin cells and buildup to reveal the fresh, smooth, radiant skin underneath. You may hear it shortened to microderm. It is non-invasive, and we apply moisturizer and SPF before you leave.
It works on the very surface of the skin, the layer of dead cells sitting on top, and typically goes no deeper than that. The handpiece uses gentle suction to draw the skin against the tip and lift the loosened cells away as it goes.
Microdermabrasion is usually done with fine crystals sprayed at the skin or with a diamond tip. Ours is a diamond tip, so there are no loose crystals in the room.

Microdermabrasion can help improve the appearance of dull skin, uneven tone, clogged pores, fine lines, mild acne scarring, rough texture and enlarged-looking pores.
It also creates a smoother surface, allowing your skincare products to absorb more effectively and your makeup to go on smoother, so they can work harder for you.
And there’s another little secret: tattoos can benefit too. Microdermabrasion can also be used as a refreshing treatment around healed tattoos to help remove surface buildup and keep the surrounding skin looking smooth, polished, and vibrant.

Because Microdermabrasion works on the surface, deeper pigment concerns and more corrective wrinkle work may be better suited to Light Chemical Peels, IPL Photofacial, or Microneedling.

The usual advice is to pause retinoids and strong acids beforehand, and to skip waxing, tanning, and peels on that area in advance.
Bring anything relevant to your skin check: what you are using on your skin, anything you take, and anything your skin does that we should know about.

Most people describe the sensation as a light sanding feeling with a gentle tug from the suction, a bit like a firm massage. Nothing is numbed, and most people sit through it easily.

Moisturizer and SPF go on before you leave, and we ask you to stay out of the sun that day. Some clients may look slightly pink, and you can get back to ordinary activity right away.
Skin is typically a little dry or flaky afterward, and the usual advice is to keep it moisturized and hold off retinoids and acids.

If you are breaking out or using a prescription acne medication, the usual advice is to have someone look at your skin before booking an exfoliation. The same goes for eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea.
Tell us if you scar easily, if you have taken a prescription acne medication recently, or if there is anything your skin does that we should know about. If a mole or a spot has changed, is growing, or bleeds, see a doctor about it before you book anything cosmetic.
Exfoliation is not done over an active cold sore or any active infection on the skin, because it can spread it.

Your skin rebuilds that surface layer quickly, which is why exfoliation is something you repeat rather than something you finish. Results are typically temporary because the skin keeps making new cells and shedding old ones, so this is something you keep up.
Compared
