What it is
A chemical peel is a professional exfoliating treatment designed to remove damaged, dull surface cells, accelerate skin renewal, and reveal smoother, brighter, clearer, younger-looking skin underneath. It is used for skin that looks uneven, rough, congested, tired, or marked by visible signs of aging.
A peel works chemically rather than mechanically. The solution loosens the bonds holding tired surface cells in place, so that layer sheds and newer skin comes up underneath.
Peels are sorted by depth, and a light chemical peel works on the outer skin layer. If you want a deeper peel, the VI Peel is ours: VI Peel
Peels are not only for the face. They can also be used on the neck, hands, chest, and back.

A light chemical peel is a soft entry point. For new clients, we usually start here because it lets us see how your skin responds.

The two light peels we use most are a salicylic acid peel for acne-prone skin and a kojic and lactic acid peel for the appearance of pigment. Salicylic acid is oil-soluble, so it typically gets into pores and is the usual pick for breakouts; kojic acid slows the enzyme used to make melanin, and lactic acid exfoliates and acts on pigment, so they are paired.

Your complimentary skin analysis is 30 minutes. We look at your skin, your goals, and which light peel makes sense. A peel can be booked directly; the skin analysis is there when you want it, not required.
We also talk about the week afterwards. Travel, sun, work, or an event are part of what we look at when we pick your timing.

It is common to be given a short skincare run-up, usually starting a couple of weeks ahead. Tell your provider about acne medication, whether you scar easily, cold sores, a fresh tan, and what you take, then book for a stretch when you can stay out of the sun.

The peel portion goes quickly: the solution is applied in even layers and is timed rather than left to sit.
As the peel goes on, you may feel a mild sting that fades after about 30 seconds. Light peels are not usually numbed.
Some places hand you a fan for the sting. We do not, because evaporating the solution can cost you the result.

After your peel, the first few days matter, and results usually show once skin has settled, not the day of the appointment. Peels are usually done as a short series; if that makes sense, we use your skin and goal to plan instead of treating the first peel as the whole answer.

A light peel typically works on the skin’s surface: tone, texture, pigment, and fine lines. It is not for loose skin. Light peels are generally considered suitable across skin tones.
The choice of light peel typically depends on your skin, history, and risk for temporary pigment change, so the formula is chosen for you, not from a menu. In general practice, peels are not done over broken skin or an active infection, and if you have taken isotretinoin, the acne tablet, in the last six months or so, a peel is usually deferred—that wait is standard across the field, and it is something a provider asks about. Let your provider know about eczema, psoriasis, a history of scarring easily, or an aspirin allergy with a salicylic peel.

Dos and don'ts
After a light chemical peel, there is almost no downtime, though you may be a little pink with a little tightness, and any flaking is usually light. Skin treated with exfoliating acids is typically more sun-sensitive for about a week afterwards, which is why sunscreen matters. Pulling at half-lifted skin is how most people get a mark they did not need.
