What it is
HydraFacial uses patented vortex technology to lift away dead skin, congestion, oil and impurities while simultaneously flooding freshly cleansed skin with hydrating and nourishing ingredients. It uses a Vortex-Fusion delivery system to cleanse, exfoliate and hydrate the skin in one treatment.
Think of it as a deep cleanse + pore detox + exfoliation + hydration infusion + customized skin cocktail rolled into one incredibly satisfying treatment. You may also hear it called hydradermabrasion, and some people write it as hydra facial. A HydraFacial typically works wet rather than dry, with the tip lifting debris and laying down serum at the same time.
The skin is cleansed with a mix of botanical cleansers and hydrating, soothing ingredients, then exfoliated with mild, low-strength acids.
You may feel tingling from the peel phase, but it should not sting or burn.
Debris is cleared from the pores with gentle suction, not by hand, then the skin is nourished with intense moisturizers.

The full works. Platinum opens with lymphatic drainage, then continues into deep cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration, a customized booster and LED light therapy.
The drainage step at the start is usually about circulation and puffiness. It is how the longest version opens, not an extra exfoliation. This is for the skin that needs everything.

HydraFacial is a beautiful fit for skin that feels dry, dehydrated, dull, congested, uneven in texture, or in need of a fresh reset before an event. The tip and solution are typically chosen for the skin in front of the provider.
HydraFacial is not for known cancer, active infections, severe cystic acne, pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Raise a current cold sore or frequent outbreaks before you book. A mole, freckle or skin tag that has changed or bled should be looked at by a doctor first. Before you book any tier, it is worth raising skin that scars or darkens after a spot heals, anything active on the skin, another treatment plan you are in the middle of, and any salicylic acid or aspirin reaction because the exfoliating step typically uses a salicylic acid solution. The LED step included in Deluxe and Platinum has a few cautions of its own, mostly around medicines that make you sun-sensitive, plus a history of skin cancer or an inherited eye condition.
Before your appointment, avoid harsh exfoliants and sun exposure, and the usual advice is to pause retinol and strong acid exfoliants for a few days first.
Worth knowing
If you have taken Accutane or another isotretinoin, wait at least six months from your last dose before considering a HydraFacial. Accutane can thin the skin, and pairing it with a HydraFacial may increase the risk of scarring and worsen existing skin issues. That waiting period is the usual rule, and it is a dermatology-wide one rather than ours.
Afterwards
There is usually nothing to recover from, because a treatment like this works only on the surface layer. That is why most people go straight back to work, errands or the rest of their day.
A little pinkness afterwards is normal and usually gone the same day or the next. The usual advice is sunscreen and less sun for a while, because freshly exfoliated skin burns more easily.
Most people are told to keep the routine simple for a few days afterwards and skip strong actives. Treatments like this do not usually call for a makeup ban, and your provider will tell you what they want on your skin that day.
