Vein removal
Spider veins are smaller red, purple and blue vessels that are easily visible through the skin, most often on the legs and face. They are not the same as reticular veins, which are larger, swollen, bluish vessels that sit deeper in the skin.
Over time, small blood vessels can become damaged, enlarged or more visible. Sun exposure and skin damage, genetics, aging, hormonal changes, rosacea-related facial redness, injury or trauma, and long periods of sitting or standing can all play a part.
We help improve the appearance of visible vascular concerns on appropriate areas of the face and body.
Spider vein removal and facial vein removal are handled one visible vessel at a time.
We also treat cherry and spider angiomas, with cherry angioma removal planned for each individual spot.
Broken capillaries treatment and redness removal are usually about the little visible vessels around the nose, cheeks and face. Broad, diffuse redness and general sun damage across a whole area are a different job, and that is IPL Photofacial.
Laser energy precisely targets the unwanted vessel, heating it and causing it to close. Your body then naturally reabsorbs the treated vessel over time, leaving it less visible.
Vein treatment uses a 1064 nm wavelength, and because the beam is focused, it is careful not to affect nearby skin, tissue and veins.
We use the Cynosure Nd:YAG as one of our vein technologies. The provider chooses the settings around the size, color, depth and location of the vessel.
We also use the Rohrer Spectrum for vascular laser treatments, giving our experienced providers more options to customize treatment based on the vessel in front of us.
The course depends on the size and number of vessels being treated, with appointments spaced to give the body time to clear each treated vessel.
Small, superficial vessels may respond beautifully early, while larger, deeper or more stubborn vessels may require a series for the best result.
In general, small vessels close to the surface typically respond more readily than larger or deeper ones, which is why the plan is individualized to each vessel.
The treated vein is reabsorbed by the body over the weeks after treatment and, in some cases, can even disappear, so the appointment does not produce the result; the weeks after it do. Most people see the change over the weeks that follow rather than on the day, and a larger vessel typically looks darker before it starts to fade.
Pigmentation
Sun spot removal and freckle removal are designed for individual brown spots and unwanted pigment, including sun spots and age spots, freckles, uneven skin tone, sun damage, and benign brown pigmentation. Pigmentation removal and hyperpigmentation treatment still start with a consultation, because the provider needs to decide whether this treatment suits the skin and the spot in front of us.
Generally, a spot is looked at before it is treated because not everything that looks like sun damage is sun damage. If something should be looked at by a doctor first, your provider will say so.
Pigment removal uses the IPL handpiece on our Rohrer Spectrum, whose light is absorbed by the pigment, and as the skin naturally renews itself the tone can look clearer and more even.
Typically, one or two sessions is enough for sun spots, though some spots take more, and the number is set at the consultation.
Typically, a treated spot looks darker before it looks better. Most people see it darken and then flake away over about a week to ten days, and the usual advice is not to pick or scrub it.
The usual advice after any pigment treatment is daily broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, and staying out of strong sun while the skin settles.

Both vein and pigmentation appointments begin with a free 30-minute consultation at our clinics in Denver and Loveland in Colorado, and Denton in Texas. You can pick your provider when you book.
Before we treat vessels or spots, we look at them, talk through what you want changed, and decide whether this treatment makes sense. Typically, the treatment is only planned after someone has looked at the vessels or the spot in person.

Before laser treatment, keep the area out of strong sun and off tanning beds.
Mention everything you are taking before the session, because some medicines make skin more sensitive to light. Please also mention a history of cold sores before facial laser work, and a small test area first is standard practice.

Treatment is vessel by vessel or spot by spot, with standard eye protection. Vein treatment can feel slightly uncomfortable because it penetrates the superficial blood vessel, and attached cooling helps.
Face vein and cherry hemangioma appointments are 15-minute services; leg vein and pigment appointments are 30-minute services, and treatments are typically quick with minimal downtime.

After vein treatment, a slight bump, mild sunburn feeling, redness for a few hours, occasional bruising, and a little swelling for a few days are typical.
Keep the treated area out of sun for a few weeks afterwards, because sun on freshly treated skin can leave a mark.

It is not for larger, deeper veins. Reticular and varicose veins are a different problem, and this is not what we are treating here.
Generally, skin tone changes what pigment removal can safely do, so the provider decides whether it suits the skin in front of them. If the skin in the area is irritated or broken, treatment is usually rescheduled.
Broad diffuse redness and general sun damage across a whole area go to IPL Photofacial. Surface pigment and overall tone may be better suited to Light Chemical Peels or Skin Resurfacing.

We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach for this treatment. Once we have looked at the vessel, we decide whether it is the kind of case that may clear quickly or the kind that should be planned as a series.
