What it is
Dermal Filler is an injectable gel made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in your body, placed to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, soften deeper folds, and create harmony between features. It can be used for lips, cheeks, chin, smile lines, and whole-face balancing.
Hyaluronic acid holds water and supports volume in the skin, and the body makes less of it with age. Dermal fillers are FDA-regulated injectable implants, typically used in the face for volume, contour, and folds; filler is a facial treatment, not a body-contouring treatment.
People also call this lip injections, lip augmentation, or HA filler.

A half syringe can add a soft amount of volume, improve symmetry, define the border, and help the lips look hydrated and refreshed while still looking natural. A full syringe can add fuller volume, improved shape, enhanced definition, and better symmetry for a more plump, hydrated appearance.
Cheek Filler is used to restore volume, enhance contour, and create a more lifted, refreshed appearance. It can add structure and support to the mid-face.
We are not chasing a cheek that looks separate from you, so we look at the mid-face, the lower face, and how much support will still look like you.
Chin Filler is about projection, shape, proportion, and facial balancing. For some faces, a small change at the chin can bring the side profile into better harmony.
It can add structure and subtle contour, help strengthen the appearance of the jawline, and create a more proportionate look. Chin Filler is offered at every location, and it starts with a consultation.
Jawline Filler is for definition, structure, contour, and a more sculpted profile. This is one of those areas where restraint matters, because the goal is support and shape, not a heavy or overbuilt look.
We look at your chin, lower face and cheeks before deciding whether Jawline Filler makes sense. Sometimes it is right, and sometimes the better plan starts elsewhere.
Nasolabial folds are the smile lines that run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Filler can strategically soften deeper folds and restore a smoother, refreshed appearance when appropriate.
The “when appropriate” part matters. We want to soften without taking away natural movement and expression.
Under-eye is one of the features we look at within Facial Balancing. If that is the area you keep noticing, we will talk through what you are seeing, what filler can and cannot do there, and whether it belongs in your plan.
This area needs a careful eye, because the under-eye relates to the cheeks, the mid-face and natural hollowing.

Your injectable consultation is free, 60 minutes, and available in Denver and Loveland in Colorado, and Denton in Texas, and you pick your provider.
At our Denton clinic, before any injectable, a $33 good-faith exam with an advanced medical practitioner over video through SpaKinect confirms your health and candidacy. It is valid for one year. What is the good-faith exam?

The usual advice before filler is to skip aspirin and anti-inflammatories for about a week beforehand if your own doctor says that is fine for you. Those medications can make bruising more likely, and we never want you stopping a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it.
Most people are also told to skip alcohol the day of and the day after filler.

The area and the amount are agreed before anything is injected. Half syringe appointments are booked for 45 minutes, full syringe appointments are 45 to 60 minutes, cheek, nasolabial, chin, and dissolve appointments are 60 minutes, and Facial Balancing is 90 minutes.
In general, most providers numb the area first, usually with a topical cream or a cold pack, and ice during and after is standard. Filler is placed either with a fine needle or with a blunt-tipped cannula, and providers choose between them by area and by what is being treated.

This is immediately after treatment, so some swelling is expected. That swelling is not your final result.
Most people see a change the same day, and every face responds differently.

Your face deserves experience, anatomy knowledge, an artistic eye, restraint, and a provider who understands that sometimes knowing when NOT to inject is just as important as knowing where to inject. Filler belongs with a licensed, trained medical provider; anything sold direct to the public or injected with a needle-free pen is a real risk, and both the FDA and the American Academy of Dermatology say so.

Afterwards
Most people look like themselves again within a few days. The usual advice is that filler takes a couple of weeks to settle before you judge the result.

The usual after-effects are swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness at the injection points. They typically start right away and settle over a few days to a couple of weeks.
Some people bruise and some do not. A little firmness early on is common and typically softens as filler settles, so tell your injector instead of working at it yourself.
Most people go back to their day afterwards, with exercise left until the next day. The usual advice is to skip the sauna and hot tub for a day or two, leave the area alone for a day or two, and sleep on your back for a few nights.
If you are sore, plain acetaminophen is the usual suggestion instead of ibuprofen. Filler is usually spaced from other facial treatments and dental work, so ask us how to sequence yours.
The rare but serious risk with any filler is the product entering a blood vessel. It is uncommon, and it is one reason filler belongs with a trained medical injector.
Call us straight away, and seek medical care, if you have unusual or worsening pain, any change in your vision, or skin near the injection site that turns pale, white, grey, or dusky. Less commonly, a reaction shows up later instead of straight away, which is a reason to stay in touch with your injector instead of waiting it out.
